Later burner under test

Later design of burner under test

I don't remember what the changes were between the previous test and this one but you can see the fire is much more successful this time. The smoke on the right had travelled from the burner back along the fuel-tube and was quickly filling the shed. Apart from the fact it smells horrible it is also highly toxic and dangerous. There is a serious risk to health from the fumes given off by this type of burner, the combination of carbon monoxide, toxic gases and soot can be lethal, particularly in a confined space. I learnt to hold my breath for over three minutes at a time doing these tests, I don't recommend it! On the finished system I installed pipes to carry air to the centre of the fuel-tube to create a positive pressure and prevent smoke and gases from reaching the hopper.
