See-saw windmill
This was a see-saw type machine that could operate at most wind speeds. The idea was to use the deflectors to capture the required power rather like the way a throttle works on a car. It was not coupled to a generator in this photo but it works by allowing the boards to 'see-saw' by partially rotating one way and then the other in time with the see-saw's motion of the main beam up and down. Difficult to describe but actually very simple. Definitely warrants further investigation and particularly useful in light winds.
