Making the auger drive

Making the auger drive

This photo shows the burner-head and the first part of the auger drive under construction. The burner-head just slides into the boiler and is easily removed for maintenance and cleaning, it is connected to the auger and hopper assemble by a three-way bolted system that is also arranged in a way that ensures the two tubes are perfectly aligned.

I forgot to mention the additional tube that exits the boiler under the burner. This was my idea for an automatic ash removal auger that I later abandoned. It proved too tricky to get all of the ash out with just one auger and, in any case, there was much less ash produced by the boiler than I first expected so it can be left for a month or so between times when it is cleaned.
